Christmas Markets in Lisbon 2026: Wonderland, Rossio and Dates
Lisbon's festive season centers on two markets, a big fair in the park above Marquês de Pombal and wooden stalls on Rossio. What is confirmed for 2026, what happened in 2025 and how to get there.

Lisbon’s two main Christmas markets are Wonderland Lisboa, a large fair in Parque Eduardo VII, and the Christmas market on Rossio square in the Baixa. As of 5 November 2026, the organizers had not published official dates for the 2026 editions; in 2025, Wonderland ran from 28 November 2025 to 4 January 2026 and the Rossio market from 14 November to 21 December 2025.
This guide uses the 2025 editions as a reference until the 2026 programs are announced. For the Christmas lights, New Year’s Eve and holiday closures, see our separate guide to Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Lisbon.
When are Lisbon’s Christmas markets in 2026?
The 2026 dates were not officially confirmed on 5 November 2026. The table shows the 2025 editions as a guide:
| Market | Location | 2025 dates | 2026 status (5 Nov 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wonderland Lisboa | Parque Eduardo VII | 28 November 2025 to 4 January 2026 | Not yet announced by the organizer |
| Rossio Christmas market (Mercado de Natal) | Praça D. Pedro IV (Rossio) | 14 November to 21 December 2025 | Not yet announced |
If the pattern repeats, the Rossio market opens in mid-November and Wonderland at the end of the month, but neither is guaranteed. Check the official tourism board listings on visitlisboa.com and the city’s program on lisboa.pt before planning a visit.
What is Wonderland Lisboa?
Wonderland Lisboa is the city’s largest Christmas event, set up in Parque Eduardo VII, the sloping park above Praça Marquês de Pombal. The 2025 edition was promoted by the broadcaster TVI (Media Capital) with an events agency, supported by Jogos Santa Casa and Lisbon City Council.
- Entry to the grounds has been free in past editions.
- Rides and attractions, such as the Ferris wheel, are paid separately.
- Food and drink stalls sell seasonal snacks, hot drinks and sweets.
- Evenings and weekends are the busiest times, especially in the school holidays.
Opening hours and ride prices for 2026 had not been published by early November. The 2025 edition was described by its organizers as having a giant Christmas tree and themed areas for all ages.
What is the Rossio Christmas market like?
The Rossio market fills Praça D. Pedro IV with wooden chalets selling crafts, Christmas decorations, sweets and hot drinks, with free entry. In 2025 the Visit Lisboa listing placed it within the “Magia do Natal” program in the Baixa-Chiado, linked to the local traders’ association for the Baixa Pombalina (ADBP), whose site publishes the program.
The square is in the center of the city, so the market is easy to combine with a walk under the lights in Rua Augusta, Chiado and Praça do Comércio. Expect crowds in the evenings and on weekends.
How do I get to the Christmas markets?
Both markets are on the Metro and do not need a car.
| Market | Nearest Metro | Other options |
|---|---|---|
| Wonderland Lisboa | Marquês de Pombal (blue and yellow lines), Parque (blue line) | Many Carris buses stop at Marquês de Pombal |
| Rossio market | Rossio (green line), Restauradores (blue line) | Rossio train station for the Sintra line; trams and buses in the Baixa |
The walk from Wonderland down Avenida da Liberdade to Rossio takes about 20 to 30 minutes and passes through the main lit streets. Traffic is restricted in parts of the Baixa on the night the lights are switched on and on New Year’s Eve.
When do the Christmas lights go on in 2026?
The 2026 switch-on date had not been announced on 5 November 2026. In 2025, the lights went on on 22 November with a show in Terreiro do Paço. For 2026, Lisbon City Council approved in May the transfer of €750,000 to the Lisbon tourism association (ATL) to fund the lights, a change from the earlier arrangement with the traders’ association UACS.
The giant tree in Praça do Comércio, the lights schedule and the New Year’s Eve concert are covered in our Christmas and New Year guide.
Are there other Christmas markets in and around Lisbon?
Yes. Parish councils (Juntas de Freguesia), shopping centers, cultural venues and schools run smaller markets and craft fairs, usually on weekends in late November and December. Many are announced only a few weeks ahead on the organizers’ social media.
- Check your Junta de Freguesia’s website for local fairs and children’s events.
- Towns near Lisbon, such as Óbidos, run their own Christmas villages; dates and tickets are set by each town.
- Our Lisbon events calendar lists the city’s recurring festivals by month.
For gifts that travel well, our guide to what to buy in Lisbon covers tinned fish, tiles and wine, plus airport liquid rules.
Bottom line
Plan around the 2025 pattern but wait for the official 2026 dates before booking anything around a market visit. The Rossio market tends to open first and close before Christmas, while Wonderland usually stays open into early January, which makes it the option for the days between Christmas and New Year.
